1919-01-01
1919 (circa)– Park Lane Clinic Moves to Escombe Avenue

  • Originally founded in Park Lane, Parktown, the Park Lane Clinic relocated to 32–34 Escombe Avenue, marking the area’s shift from purely residential living to community-based medical care.

1919 Nurses Home Built

  • The property was purpose-built as a residence for trained nurses, supporting the clinic’s work and earning a Johannesburg Heritage Foundation “B” rating for its historical and community significance.

1930 Clinic & Nurses Home

  • The site functioned as both a medical facility and a home for nursing staff, reflecting healthcare practices of the time and Parktown West’s leafy, residential character.

1961-01-01
1961 A New Purpose

  • Purchased by the Dutch Reformed Church (NG Kerk), the site was transformed into an elder care facility, originally known as Die Witwatersrandse Tuiste vir Bejaardes, rooted in dignity, responsibility, and lifelong care.

1979-01-01
1979 Rezoning for Elder Care

  • The property was formally rezoned for use as an old-age and convalescent home, affirming its role in long-term residential care.

2003-01-01
2003 Expansion & Name Change

Major renovations and new wings were added, including a dedicated dementia care building. The Centre was renamed Park Care Centre / Sorgsentrum, reflecting its growing focus on specialised frail care.

2021 & Beyond | Continuing the Legacy

In 2021, Park Care celebrated 60 years of continuous service. Today, it remains a trusted provider of holistic, 24/7 frail care, combining heritage with modern nursing support.
